I recently began one of the most hectic and beneficial times of my life. I was selected to be part of the Goldman Sachs 10,000 Small Businesses program! The program is aimed toward giving entrepreneurs the tools and education to create more jobs and expand their businesses. I’m doing 100 hours in just 13 weeks so, I will definitely have my hands full. But I’m so ready to dive in and share the tips and tricks I pick up with you!
After just a few classes, I’ve discovered some great insights that have helped me with school, my career and life in general. My personal mantra right now is “Show Up, Be Present.” This program will definitely test that! There’s a difference between sitting through a class uninterested and sitting through a class engaged. I’m determined to put my best into this program.
Another quote I’ve picked up from the class is “How do you find the time to work on your business when you’re used to working in it?” That’s the entrepreneur’s dilemma. But you can do it, and you must, if you want to be successful.
Tips For Hectic Schedule:
1. Calendar (yes, it’s a verb). I’m all about calendaring right now. It’s not enough to have my iCal. I need to see it in writing somewhere. I am keeping up with work, personal, and now academic calendars. I’m a visual learner, so I need to write these things down.
2. Carve out “me time.” Right now, that means less us time for friends and family. I need to make sure I’m charged during this busy season. Instead of girls’ weekends, I’m opting for girls’ nights. It’s a big sacrifice, but isn’t everything that’s so worth it?
3. Forgive yourself. Something is going to go wrong. I am going to forget a commitment, call, submission deadline…and it’s going to have to be ok. The key is to forgive yourself, rectify the situation, and move on as quickly as possible.
